What is the the TPS tribute to hockey moms?

It is a tribute to hockey moms who do so much yet often their efforts go unnoticed. They make sure their hockey superstars are ready with everything they need.

Why choose breast cancer?

Many people have been closely linked to the breast cancer disease so raising money was a logical step.

*One in nine Canadian women is expected to develop breast cancer during her lifetime. One in 27 will die from the disease.

*In 2006, an estimated 22,200 women were diagnosed with breast cancer and 5,300 died of it.

What is the story behind the pink stick?

The idea came after the deaths of Phylis Gretzky to lung cancer(the most famous hockey mom of them all) and TPS’s new owner Paul Walker’s sister to breast cancer. These motivated the charitable effort along with the tribute.  NHL players wanted to support the cause and agreed to play with pink sticks to then be auctioned off to raise money and awareness.

How can I help?

Two ways

1. The online auction -by auctioning off the game day used sticks,  awareness and funds are raised for cancer research.  The auction   takes place after the weekend event. –with link to auction page

2. Purchasing a stick at your local retailer.

When does the auction begin and where can I bid?

The auction begins in March and will be available on eBay.

Where can I get a pink a stick for this years effort?

You can check with your local retailers by using our directory. TPS Hockey will make a donation to the Canadian Cancer Society for each special edition pink stick sold.

Is this just an NHL event?

No, this has grown into a global event with athletes of all ages. Not only hockey but in baseball aswell. The MLB used pink bats in 2006 for mothers day to raise money aswell. Other tournaments have taken place in Scotland and Hungary, and the NCAA created their own fundraisers based on the Tribute to Hockey Moms Breast Cancer Fundraiser.
